The 9:09 Project is more than just a story because it reflects the real-life experiences of its author, Mark Parsons. Like Jamison, the book’s main character, Parsons has synesthesia. This is a condition in which the brain mixes senses together. For example, someone with synesthesia might see colors when they hear music or link certain colors to numbers or letters. Parsons experiences a type called grapheme-color synesthesia, one of the most common forms. This means that when he sees letters, numbers, or days of the week, he also sees them in specific colors.
