Just as humans are born with two eyes, so Egyptian mythology features two symbolic eyes. The Eye of Horus is associated with the left side, while the Eye of Ra is linked to the right. Ra was the powerful sun god of ancient Egypt and was closely connected with kingship and cosmic order. According to one famous myth, Ra became angry with the people on Earth for opposing him. As a result, he sent his right eye to Earth to punish humans. The eye took the form of Sekhmet, a fierce and bloodthirsty lion goddess.
