If you walk through a park or school campus in Taiwan, you might notice a large brown bird that stands still as if it is playing Red Light, Green Light. This strange, patient bird is the Malayan night heron. Because it does not seem to be afraid of people, many Taiwanese have given it the funny nickname “big dumb bird.” The Malayan night heron is a medium-sized heron that can grow to about 50 centimeters long. It has a black crown, bright yellow eyes, and greenish legs.
如果你漫步在臺灣的公園或校園裡，你可能會注意到一隻體型頗大的褐色鳥類，牠一動也不動地站著，彷彿在玩一二三木頭人。這種奇特、充滿耐心的鳥類就是黑冠麻鷺。因為牠似乎不太怕人，許多臺灣民眾便幫牠取了一個有趣的綽號叫「大笨鳥」。黑冠麻鷺是一種中型的鷺科鳥類，體長可達約五十公分。牠擁有黑色的頭頂、亮黃色的眼睛和略帶綠色的雙腿。
