Cilantro grows naturally in regions from southern Europe to northern Africa and parts of Asia. As one of the world’s oldest herbs, it has been used since ancient times, and its seeds, known as coriander, have even been found in ancient Egyptian tombs. While the fresh leaves are added to many dishes, the dried seeds of the plant often serve as a spice. These seeds have a warmer and milder taste. The herb was later introduced to the Americas in the 1600s by European settlers.
