When you look at the Sun, it sometimes appears much larger than its actual size. The circle of light that makes it look bigger is called a halo. In psychology, this idea is used as a metaphor to describe a mental shortcut known as the halo effect. This phenomenon occurs when people form an overall impression of a person based on a single positive trait. If one good quality is observed in an individual, the brain often unconsciously creates a “halo” around that person. As a result, people tend to make quick judgments and assume the person’s other traits are positive as well.
