While masked palm civets can be found in several Southeast Asian countries, they remain at risk of extinction in some regions, including Taiwan. As with many other species facing serious population decline, several factors contribute to the threats they encounter. The first major threat is habitat loss. The continual expansion of human settlements, farming, and industrial development often comes at the expense of natural ecosystems. While masked palm civets have shown some adaptability, surviving in urban areas such as Singapore, their presence reflects necessity rather than choice.
