Unlike traditional instruments, which can last for hundreds of years, vegetable instruments spoil quickly. Therefore, the orchestra needs to create new ones for every performance. Each member makes eight to 25 instruments for every show, spending hours turning carrots into flutes or pumpkins into drums. So far, they have invented more than 150 instruments by doing things like attaching peppers to cucumbers or simply rubbing two leeks together.

The group has performed at famous places like London’s Royal Albert Hall. The Vegetable Orchestra has also been listed in the Guinness World Records and has inspired others to form similar orchestras.
