Around 1950, Austrian zoologist Konrad Lorenz said that cuteness causes a caring response in people. Therefore, things that are cute have an advantage in life because people would naturally want to take care of and protect them. Imagine a litter of five puppies. In most cases, two of those puppies are lovely to look at, two are regular puppies, and one is probably a little less cute. The cute ones always receive the most attention and have the best lives.
