The AI startup Higgsfield has launched Higgsfield Records, which it claims to be the world’s first music label powered entirely by AI. With the bold slogan “You don’t need talent anymore. Your face is enough,” the company has quickly drawn public attention.
Its first fully AI-created K-pop idol, Kion, comes complete with teaser clips and even music videos. Higgsfield Records is also accepting applications from anyone interested in becoming an AI idol.
However, the idea of virtual idols is not entirely new. For example, nævis is an AI-generated virtual idol created by a South Korean entertainment company. She has released several songs and even appeared in videos with real-life idols. Another case is PLAVE, a virtual K-pop boy group brought to life by real human performers. With the help of motion capture technology, each member’s facial expressions and body movements are turned into digital form in real time.
