The Art of Racing in the Rain was written by American author and film producer Garth Stein. In addition to writing novels, Stein has worked on a documentary about his sister’s brain surgery. He was born in Los Angeles but raised in Seattle. After spending some time in New York, he returned to Seattle. There, he co-founded the nonprofit organization Seattle7Writers, which provides funding, programs, and free books to those in need. Stein is also known for his innovation. In 2010, he organized The Novel: Live!, an event in which 36 authors wrote a novel in front of a live audience over the course of six days.
