While a halo brings light, the horn effect works in the opposite way and casts a shadow over someone’s character. It happens when one negative trait or bad experience leads people to believe that an individual’s other qualities are also negative. For example, if a student arrives late on the first day of school, teachers or classmates may label the student as a troublemaker. Even if the student is generally very responsible, that early impression can cause others to continue judging them in the same way for the rest of the school year.
