It can be difficult to tell whether our friends or family members are experiencing mental health problems. This is especially true when they appear to lead happy and successful lives. However, appearances can be misleading. Someone who looks calm and relaxed on the outside may be struggling with inner challenges. A term that captures this idea is “duck syndrome.” It refers to individuals who seem to manage life effortlessly in public but, beneath the surface, they are working hard to keep everything together.
