Everyone has at least one food that they find disgusting. Some people are disgusted by a food’s appearance, ingredients, or strong flavor. In many cases, our background and cultural environment also influence our sense of what is disgusting. These are some of the ideas that inspired the Disgusting Food Museum in Malmö, Sweden. The museum was created in 2018 by Samuel West, a psychologist who hopes that people can challenge their attitudes about certain foods. It displays a variety of strange foods from around the world, including fermented shark meat from Iceland and maggot-filled cheese from Sardinia, Italy. You may even spot some familiar items from Taiwan, like stinky tofu or century eggs.
