One of the most popular nuts that shares its name with both a color and a tree is the pistachio. With its slightly sweet, nutty flavor and soft green color, the pistachio is much loved by people all over the world. Pistachios are a traditional food in the hot desert climates of Turkey and Iran, where they have been eaten for thousands of years. They grow on leafy pistachio trees that can reach up to 10 meters in height. Pistachios, the seeds of these trees, are harvested when their shells turn yellowish pink and naturally split open.
