Although criminals use AI for illegal purposes, the same technology can also be used to fight back. A British telecom company introduced a chatbot named Daisy, which is designed to sound like a friendly, talkative old lady. Daisy’s job is “scambaiting,” or turning the tables on scammers as they attempt to trick victims. Also called AI Granny, Daisy draws scammers into long, time-wasting conversations. The strategy keeps them on the phone and makes them annoyed as they try to get information from the harmless old lady.
