Lois Lowry’s book, The Giver, was first published in the United States in 1993. The story is a work of dystopian fiction for children. The word dystopian is used to describe an unfair society filled with great suffering. The main character of the story is a 12-year-old boy named Jonas, who lives in a community of Sameness. In this community, there is no diversity, color, or climate. There is no pain, but also no joy. Everyone is equal, and everyone is the same.
